The Villages: Lanes, Leaves & Playgrounds (2 Closed, 1 Picked Up)

This week in the villages: Getting around the Mario Cuomo Bridge won’t get any easier this week. It’s Week 2 of the River Road closure required to demolish the Rockland Tappan Zee Bridge landing. There will also be overnight lane and exit ramp closures. Local streets will be a little bit tidier as leaf collection season commences. And the Nyack villages and school district are still looking for volunteers to provide input for a master plan for bicycling and walking. New York Congresswoman Nita Lowey wants to hear from you about gun reform.

Tappan Zee Bridge News

River Road, near the Tappan Zee and Mario Cuomo bridges, will be closed again this week. And this week will also see construction activities near the Tappan Zee Bridge’s landings and abutments that will require multiple overnight lane closures. Those closures will be of southbound/eastbound lanes from exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) to exit 9 (Tarrytown – Sleepy Hollow – US Route 9), as well as the southbound/eastbound Thruway exit 10 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) on-ramp on the nights of Thursday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 20. Southbound/eastbound drivers will be detoured to the exit 11 (Nyack – South Nyack – US Route 9W) on-ramp, shown below.

All four Rockland-bound (northbound/westbound) lanes will remain open during the operation. Specific lane and ramp closure times are listed in the chart below.

Help Wanted: Greater Nyack Bike/Walk Master Plan (GNBWMP)

The Nyack river villages and school district invite community members and business owners to help create a “Greater Nyack Bike/Walk Master Plan.” The Village of Nyack has received a grant to hire a consultant to create this plan; community members are invited to join the GNBWMP committee to help select a vendor and provide input to the chosen consultant once the project gets underway. Residency or employment in the school district or Nyack river villages is not required to be involved in this effort. The project hopes to improve safety and create better connections: 1) for students and parents to get to and from Nyack Schools; 2) between Nyack neighborhoods and local destinations; 3) by better managing the increased foot and cycling traffic from the Shared Use Path on the new Tappan Zee Bridge.
Interested in joining the committee? Write to recreation@nyack-ny.gov with the subject line GNBWMP Committee to sign up. For more information, visit Nyack-NY.gov.
Memorial Park Playground Closed, Mon-Fri (Oct 16-20)
The children’s playground at Memorial Park will be closed on Monday, October 16 through Friday, October 20, 2017 for construction on the hillside. This project is sponsored by the Nyack Parks Conservancy. Thank you for your cooperation.
