This just in: The Tues Orangetown public hearing re: opening a Data Center at the former Rockland Psychiatric Ctr will be extended until Wed 3/15 because of the predicted snowstorm.

When Nyack Was Wet ‘n Wild

Stanley Acker’s Wet ‘n Wild cosmetics company grew from a four person operation in his New City, NY home to a business with national and international distribution. According to DrugStoreNews.com, by 1984 the Nyack-based business had with more than 600 employees and distribution in more than 100 countries. In 1997, Acker sold Pavion to AM Cosmetics in a deal valued at more than $100 million. In 2003, the Markwins acquired AM Cosmetics.
Wet ‘n Wild was a trademark of Pavion, Ltd. Stanley Acker passed away on March 6, 2008.

The project’s estimated completion is the end of 2017. For more info, sign up for the developer’s mailing list at PavionApartments.com.
The new Pavion development will include several work/live spaces—the type clamored for at numerous village board meetings over the past several years — complemented by new commercial space along Franklin Street.
The unpaved South Nyack Esposito Rail Trail will be extended through the property. Other amenities to be provided by the developer include the daylighting of the Nyack Brook, a small public park, a swimming pool, clubhouse, green roof and a rain garden.

Here’s last week’s news and next week’s municipal events in Upper, South and the Village of Nyack.

Village of Nyack

Trustee Doug Foster has submitted his resignation to the Nyack Village Board. “It is with mixed emotions that I have decided to step down as Trustee for the Village of Nyack,” Foster wrote  in a Facebook post last week.
Foster says that he is stepping down to focus on one of the areas he championed during his time on the village board: Nyack’s waterfront. “I am passionate about restoring a vibrant, active waterfront to Nyack and truly claiming ourselves as a rivertown. And I am now pursuing an opportunity which I believe will help Nyack take a big step in that direction.” Foster is a partner in Nyack Boat Charter, a business venture for corporate excursions and private parties on the Hudson River near Nyack.
Doug Foster was first elected to the Village Board with Nyack Mayor Jen White in 2010. His last VB meeting was March 9; his resignation is effective March 17. You can read his complete statement on Facebook.
Nyack’s Village Treasurer John Pintos has also submitted his resignation. Pintos has been in the part time position since January, 2016. The Village Of Nyack is currently taking resumes for the treasurer position.
Nyack’s Comprehensive Master Plan just got a promotion: it’s now “Nyack’s Award Winning Comprehensive Master Plan.” The document was recognized by the NY Planning Federation’s Award for planning.
