Nyack Weekender: Bastille Day Celebration

Time to celebrate: Piermont’s Bastille Day Celebration is the fête to be at! There’s Valcon 2.0 for fans of anime and comics, and We Can Share the Wine Music festival for deadheads. This Fri-Sun list of what to do and where to do it is brought to you by The Arts Council of Rockland.

Friday

  • Enjoy some classic whodunits with Alfred Hitchcock Presents 2 One Acts where macabre murder mysteries are performed live on stage, directed by Richard Quinn. Fri & Sat at 8-10p at the Nyack Village Theatre, 94 Main St, Nyack.
  • The audience is enthralled and propelled in The Other Place, a play about a successful drug company biophysicist whose life is unhinged. Fri & Sat at 8p, Sun at 2p, Elmwood Playhouse, 10 Park St, Nyack.
  • Crush performs anthem and party rock from the 80’s onward. 8p at Nyack Pour House, 102 Main St.
  • Los Straitjackets plays instrumental rock n’ roll at 8p at Turning Point Cafe, 468 Piermont Ave.
  • The Dave Reiss & Friends Show features masterful musicians playing a blend of originals and classic blues, soul and rock. 9:30p at Casa del Sol, 104 Main St, Nyack.
  • The price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs: The NYT says Buyer & Caller is ‘the most talked-about comedy of the year.’ Fri at 8p, Sat at 4 & 8p, Sun at 2p. Penguin Rep Theatre, 7 Cricketown Rd, Stony Point.

Saturday

  • Bastille DayValcon 2.0 brings anime and comic fans together for a day of cosplay, live entertainment, workshops and a talk by guest of honor, Denny O’Neil, original writer of the Batman Comics. 10a – 4p at Valley Cottage Library, 110 Rt 303.
  • Experience the Storming of Stony Point with re-enactors from American, British and Loyalist units. Meet soldiers and officers and witness military drills and artillery demonstrations. 11a – 4p at Stony Point Battlefield, 44 Battlefield Rd.
  •  Bastille Day Celebration in Piermont brings a re-enactment of the storming of the Bastille, a guillotine on display, live music and traditional French food. Noon – 10p in downtown Piermont.
  •  We Can Share the Wine Music Festival highlights two Grateful Dead tribute bandsStella Blue’s Band and Dead on the Tracks – with music, vendors, food and kids activities. Tickets: $15 at gate. Noon – 6p at Torne Valley Vineyards, Torne Valley Rd, Hillburn.
  • Edward Hopper House features photographer David LaChapelle’s Gas Station Series. LaChapelle is renowned for his celebrity photographs, music videos and films. On display through Sept 11. 82 N Broadway, Nyack.

Sunday

Don’t miss the Sweet Summertime Country Music Festival presenting the Thunder Hill Band and the Demolition String Band with food, wine, vendors and craft beer. Admission: $15. 11a – 5p at Torne Valley Vineyards, Torne Valley Rd, Hillburn.

  • Rescheduled to July 21 because of rain: Classic Car Night takes over Main Street as 250 hot rods and classics cruise in for a night of live music, food and fabulous cars. 5p in downtown Nyack.
