Today’s library is about more than books. You can also borrow movies, music, audio books and e-readers too. And now you can even get something good for your garden, too.
The Nyack Seed Exchange at the Nyack Library is a place for gardeners to share seeds and experience, learn about seed saving and to grow our community. You can checkout seeds from the library to use in your garden with the request that you save and share the seeds from plants that you grow, such as tomatoes, peas, beans and lettuce.
As members learn more about seed saving, they might want to try seed saving from plants that are categorized as advanced. Seeds and programs are free to members and everyone is welcome to become a member. Members are encouraged to return saved and store-bought seeds to replenish the collection. Nyack Seed Exchange hours are Saturdays from 10a – 2p near the Computer Resource Center.

To kick off the growing season, come to the library on Saturday 3/12 at 2:30p for a Seed Starting Slam with Joan Gussow. Share your experiences with your favorite varieties, learn seed sowing and starting techniques, and — if you want to really cultivate some new gardening relationships — bring some seeds to share. It’s a free event, however, registration is required.
Piermont’s Joan Gussow is know as one of the founders of the local, sustainable, organic food movement. She is the author of The Feeding Web, This Organic Life, and Growing Older: A Chronicle of Death, Life, and Vegetables, and is Mary Swartz Rose Professor Emerita and former chair of the Columbia University Teachers College Department of Nutrition Education.
Reflections of Einstein Documentary, Wed at 7p
Back by popular demand, a feature documentary based on personal interviews with friends and colleagues of Albert Einstein, including research assistants and several Nobel Laureates. Presented by Wally Glickman, Filmmaker and Professor of Physics at LIU Brooklyn. Registration is required.
