Photo Of The Year: Arnold Roufa

So many days, so many images. If you were a photographer and were asked to choose your favorite photo amongst the hundreds or thousands you shot in 2013, which picture would you choose? That’s the challenge we gave to some of our favorite local photographers. Pick a picture and tell us why it’s your favorite.

Today we hear from Arnold Roufa, who lives in Nyack.

It was 6:55am September 12, 2013 and our dog decided it was time to go out for her early morning walk. As we stepped out of the apartment I saw that Mother Nature had produced another spectacular display. Luci Lu did her business. I brought her home, grabbed my camera and sped to the river shore. As the sun began its early morning rise the clouds formed an altar.

As a cancer survivor I have an affinity for sunrises. The beauty in front of me was another message-appreciate life and revel in each glorious moment.

I frequently photograph at this exact location and the most amazing fact is that each day each image is different.

Arnold Roufa and his wife have lived in Nyack since 2001.  Prior to moving here from Manhattan he had a solo practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology for 30 years.  He was interested in photography prior to the move but once surrounded by the beauty of Rockland County got into it full time.  Since then he has had multiple shows, does photos for Rivertown Magazine and has had the cover 23 times. You can see samples of his work at his web site: RoufaMD.com.
