Americorps’ Cure For The Summertime Blues

Rockland County, May 28 — Here’s a reason to get out of bed before noon this summer: AmeriCorps’ Youth Employment Program. Rockland County AmeriCorps is looking for people 21 and older for part-time paid positions as Job Coaches, Site Monitors and Trainer’s Assistants.

Positions are now available to work up to 300 hours this summer or 450 hours through the end of 2010.

YEP AmeriCorps members receive a $2,949 living stipend and a $1,250 educational award for 450 hours of service as a Job Coach, Site Monitor and/or a Trainer’s Assistant. Three hundred hour YEP AmeriCorps members receive a $1,959 living stipend and a $1,000 education award that can be used to pay towards college tuition or a qualified student loan. YEP members also receive training, networking and the experience of working with a spectrum of youth development professionals to add to their resume.

Potential candidates must be available for 35-hours per week, with hours during weekdays and some weekends. Other qualifications are, but are not limited to, social work and/or education experience, youth outreach, a commitment to the program and its completion, flexibility, excellent time management skills, patience, creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

Youth Employment AmeriCorps members will take on responsibilities such as providing job coaching readiness skills, life skills, workforce preparation, monitoring work sites, one-on-one job coaching with young people, skills assessment and reporting.

Participation in this program is an excellent way to explore career interests, bolster your resume, network within the literacy/education field, or donate one’s time, goodwill and expertise to a program that has a longstanding positive community impact. This is a wonderful opportunity for active retirees, college and graduate students, who are at least 21 years old.
