The Villages: Get Ready for Summer Fun

This week in the villages: Don’t miss out on all the fun activities and events the Towns of Clarkstown and Orangetown have for residents this summer. Registration for summer recreation programs are now open. Upper Nyack is holding a Board of Trustees meeting and public hearing on the Local Law Regulating Sound within the Village of Upper Nyack. The Town of Orangetown continues its Friday Family Movie Night Series. And in Clarkstown, the Congers and Germonds pools open for the season with a special Serendipity Saturday celebration at Germonds pool.

State of Emergency Lifted in Rockland County

County Executive Ed Day recently lifted the State of Emergency which was in effect since March 2020.  Active cases of COVID-19 have steadily decreased since mid-March of this year and there are currently 100 active cases in Rockland County with 6 individuals currently hospitalized with COVID-19. The current COVID-19 case 7-day average is 7 new cases per day. And according to New York State vaccination data, approximately 159,500 people in Rockland have received at least one vaccine dose which equates to 49% of Rockland’s total population.

Village of Nyack

The Architectural Review Board will meet on Wed, June 16, 2021 to consider requests for signage, a new deck, exterior changes, installation of a rear entrance door, for window replacement and deck repair, for new construction, and to demolish existing buildings and fuel pump canopys and relocate on site. Summer Food Program

Starting June 28, 2021, Nyack’s Summer Food Program will offer FREE breakfast and lunch to ANY child under 18 each weekday through September 3. There are two locations: Waldron Terrace and The Nyack Center. There is no sign-up, no application, no income requirement, and no identification needed. Masks are required.

Village of South Nyack

Disruption of the Village Dissolution Public Information Meeting

The recent Village Dissolution Public Information meeting came to an abrupt end due to an unfortunate incident and residents did not have the opportunity to ask questions. Laberge Group is offering “office” hours to answer your questions and hear your comments. The session will be a 15 minute one-on-one Zoom meeting held from 7-9p on Wed, June 16, 2021. You may register for a time slot on labergegroup.com. Once your appointment has been booked, you will be provided with the Zoom information via email. At this time Laberge Group is not able to send emails to “optonline” email addresses, so please provide an email address using another email provider.

Village of Upper Nyack

The Board of Trustees of the Village of Upper Nyack will hold a regular meeting and public hearing on the Local Law Regulating Sound within the Village of Upper Nyack on Thurs, June 17, 2021 at 7p via Zoom. Transcripts will be provided at a later date.

Local Law Regulating Sound Within the Village of Upper Nyack

Upon review of comments from the public, the Village Board of Trustees has made modifications to the proposed Local Law, formerly known as the Noise Law, now named “A Local Law regulating Sound within the Village of Upper Nyack.” The modified text of the law can be found on uppernyack-ny.us. A redline comparison copy can be also be found on uppernyack-ny.us.

2021-2022 Tax Notice

In order to not be given a penalty, taxes for the current year must be paid by June 30, 2021. Taxes may be mailed to Receiver of Taxes, Village of Upper Nyack, 328 North Broadway, Upper Nyack, NY 10960, or paid at the Village Clerk’s Office weekdays from 9a until 12p, from June 1, 2021, through June 30, 2021. Checks may be made payable to the Village of Upper Nyack. For all taxes remaining unpaid after July 1, 2021, interest of five percent shall be added for the month of July, with an additional one percent) for each month or fraction thereof until Nov 1, 2021, when it will be sent to the County for re-levy. The tax rate for 2021-2022 is $13.427 per $1,000 of Assessed Valuation.

Town of Orangetown

Movies in the Park

Join Orangetown’s Parks & Recreation Department for their Friday Family Movie Series in Veteran’s Memorial Park on Fri, June 18, 2021 at 8p for a screening of Disney’s The Lion King. The cost is $3 per person with a maximum of $15 per family (same household only). Space will be limited and social distancing rules will be in place. Town of Clarkstown

Registration Open for Summer Recreation Programs

Registration is now open for all summer programs including camps, aquatics, and birthday parties. You must have a verified Community Pass account to register. If you need to create an account, you must come into the Recreation Administration Building to prove residency.

Clarkstown Pools Opening Dates

For those looking to beat the heat, the town pools will open as follows:

  • Congers Pool – Sat, June 19
  • Germonds Pool – Sat, June 19 and it will also be Serendipity Saturday, and free to all residents with fun events happening all day.
  • Lake Nanuet Pool – Sat, June 26

Lifeguards Needed

The town is looking for certified lifeguards and water safety instructors to work at the Clarkstown pools this summer. The pay rate for lifeguards is $14 per hour and the pay rate for water safety instructors is $15 per hour. Applicants must be 16-years-old. An application may be found on town.clarkstown.ny.us or you may call 845-639-6200.

Western Highway Bridge Closure

As part of the Klein Ave Levee Improvement Project, the Town of Clarkstown’s contractors will be raising the Western Highway bridge to a higher elevation to reduce flooding in the West Nyack area. Western Highway (between Green Road and Pineview Road) is expected to close within the next two weeks and will remain closed for six months.

Traffic will be detoured as follows.

  • Southbound: Doscher Ave to Rt. 59 to Rt 303.
  • Northbound: Leber Road to Rt. 303.
