Photo Credit: Dave ZornowThe September 7 scheduled switch of eastbound traffic to the second span of the Mario Cuomo Bridge was cancelled on Friday night over concerns about the stability of the original Tappan Zee Bridge which is in the process of being demolished. Tappan Zee Constructors engineers have completed their examination of the 1955 bridge over the weekend finding it to be stable but with “certain key components highly stressed.” Having concluded that the new span is good to go and won’t be impacted by any falling debris from thd old bridge, eastbound traffic into Westchester will be shifted to the south span on Tues night/Wed morning.
