The Villages: Showtime Shoot, Shredding and Rabies Shots

This week in the villages: It’s lights, camera, action as  film crews take over part of the village on Monday. And less sexy but equally important, you can have your important documents shredded this week–for free! And speaking of free, this week will see an opportunity to get your furry family members a free rabies vaccine. Also, TZC continues work in Westchester, with exit ramp and evening lane closures approaching the bridge.

Village of Nyack

Filming – April 23
On Monday, April 23, the Showtime series “Ray Donovan” will be filming in the village. Residents and businesses in the areas of filming have been notified. No roads will be closed. However, there will be intermittent traffic control by the Orangetown Police Department.
Spring 2018 Recreation Programs
Registration is now open for the Spring 2018 Recreation Programs, including Mini Dragons Kung Fu, Beginner Tennis, Basketball, Teen Aerial Yoga, Dramarama and Ukulele with Rivertown Music.

Village of Upper Nyack

Purchase of 11+ Acres of Land at 626 N Broadway
This week, the Village of Upper Nyack Board of Trustees sent a letter to the residents of Upper Nyack regarding the purchase of 11+ acres of land at 626 N Broadway and the vision for its future use. On April 19, the Board of Trustees also adopted a bond resolution authorizing the issuance of $2,200,000 in bonds to finance part of the purchase price of the land.

Rockland County

O & R Storm Response Hearing
The NYS Public Service Commission is seeking comments from Orange and Rockland customers regarding the utilities’ preparedness and response during the winter storms that swept our area. Residents interested in making comments can attend a public hearing on Tuesday, April 24 at 2p or 6p at the Ramapo Town Hall (237 Rt 59, Suffern). If you can’t attend the hearing, you may submit comments online (enter case number 18-00618 in the search option).
Free Paper Shredding
On Saturday, April 28, from 8a to 12p , the Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority is sponsoring a free paper shredding event at Germonds Park (165 Germonds Rd, West Nyack). Please bring a non-perishable food donation for local pantries. There is a three box limit per car. No plastic bags, binders or other plastics. Paper clips and staples are acceptable. This event is available to all residents in the County.
Free Rabies Clinic
The Rockland County Department of Health and the Rockland Westchester Veterinary Medical Association is sponsoring a free rabies clinic on Sunday, April 29, from 10a to 1p at Rockland County Fire Training Center (65 Firemen’s Memorial Dr, Pomona). No appointment is needed. The shots are free, though a $5 donation is suggested. To be vaccinated, your dog, cat or ferret must be healthy; your pet must be older than 3 months; dogs must be on a leash and cats and ferrets must be on a leash or in a top opening container. Tappan Zee Bridge News

Overnight Lane Closures in Tarrytown
Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) is scheduled to continue installing new precast concrete slabs near the bridge’s Westchester landing. The work will create a new base roadway for the twin-span crossing’s connection to the Thruway when the second span opens later this year. It requires overnight lane closures on the northbound New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287). At least one lane will remain open at all times. Specific lane closure times are listed in the chart below.

Work will also necessitate closing the northbound Thruway exit 9 (Tarrytown – Sleepy Hollow – US Route 9) on-ramp from Route 119 during the overnight of Thursday, April 26. Drivers will be detoured approximately one mile east on Route 119 to access the northbound Thruway (see map below). The exit 9 off-ramp will remain accessible from the northbound Thruway.
