Nyack Weekender: Rockland Pride Weekend

Nyack’s yearly celebration of LGBT pride is in full swing with events throughout the weekend, leading up to Rockland Pride Sunday. Catch some theatre, opera, and Hopper, too. This Fri-Sun list of what to do and where to do it is brought to you by The Arts Council of Rockland.

Friday

  • Rockland prideKick off Rockland Pride Weekend with an Opening Gathering featuring complimentary hor d’oeuvres and a cash bar. 6 – 10p at The Speakeasy at the Time Hotel, 400 High Ave, Nyack.
  • Enjoy a full cast reading of Tom Dudzick’s Miracle on South Division Street presented by Friends of The Nyack Library to benefit the Carnegie Concert Series. 7 – 10p at Nyack Library, 59 S Broadway, Nyack.
  • Shaken is a drama about a young man in search of answers from the most unlikely place, and finds more about himself than he thought possible. Fri & Sat at 7p at Shades Repertory Theater Company, 64 New Main St, Haverstraw.
  • Rainmaker tells the story of a spinsterish farm gal who worries about her marriage prospects more than about their dying cattle. Fri & Sat at 8p, Sun at 1p, Antrim Playhouse, 15 Spook Rock Rd, Suffern.
  • The Immigrant is a true story of the playwright’s grandfather, a Jewish man who in 1909 emigrated from Russia to claim a stake in the American Dream. Fri at 2 & 8p, Sat at 4 & 8p, Sun at 2p. Penguin Rep Theatre, 7 Crickettown Rd, Stony Point.
  • Next to Normal is a moving pop-rock musical for audiences who want to feel everything in one theatrical ride. Fri & Sat at 8p, Sun at 2p at Elmwood Community Playhouse, 10 Park St, Nyack.

Saturday

  • Join Bike Nyack for a spin to Englewood, NJ. 830a at Memorial Park, the corner of Depew & Piermont Aves.
  • “The Isolated Christ,” Nelson Diaz


    Yard sale to benefit the Historical Society of the Nyacks. Items for sale include furniture, books, tools, household goods, sports equipment, etc…10a – 3p at 192 S Broadway, Nyack.
  • Artist Nelson Diaz discusses his exhibition Recycling Time currently on display. 3-4p at Garner Arts Center, 55 W Railroad Ave.
  • Enjoy Jazz@theRock by the JazzCats, presented by Rockland Conservatory of Music. 5 – 7P at Good Shepherd Church, 112 N. Main St, Pearl River.
  • Attend a surprise event for Rockland Pride Weekend that includes cocktails and LGBT history. 7p at Festoon, 95 Main St, Nyack.pig
  • The Hudson Lyric Opera performs Ruggiero Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci. This popular opera, performed in English with orchestra, sets, and costumes, tells the story of love and tragedy. Sat at 7:30p and Sun at 2p, Trinity United Methodist Church, 47 E Main St, Stony Point.
  • CANCELLED DUE TO SEVERE WEATHER FORECAST. Rescheduled for July 25.  Watch The Birdcage Under the Stars: Beloved comedian Robin Williams stars in a poignant comedy about a gay man whose son wants him to play it straight for a few days.

Sunday

  • Celebrate Rockland Pride Sunday with music, dancing and fun. Performances by the East Ramapo and Nyack High School Marching Band, Dave Reiss & Friends, Frankie Dee & the Boys, and Batala NYC. Plus, vendors, food and children’s activities. 12 -5p in the Main Street parking lot, Nyack.
  • Take the Edward Hopper Walking Tour. See Nyack through his eyes. The tour highlights the influence oflight, water and architecture, sponsored by the Historical Society of the Nyacks. Meet at 2p at the Edward Hopper House Art Center, 82 N Broadway.

  • Opening reception for a Juried Art Exhibit & Sale to benefit Rockland County Pride. On display through July. 1 – 5p at Rockland Center for the Arts, 27 S Greenbush Rd, West Nyack.
