Holiday Window Shopping, Artfully Done

Nyack, Dec 11 — Downtown Nyack will be transformed into a streetscape art gallery from now through January with the Nyack Window Project, a venture which pairs visual artists with local landlords to create original installations in empty storefronts.

The exhibition — conceived by award-winning set designer and Nyack resident Joanne Howard — brings together a diverse group of visual artists in a group show. It’s an experience that combines three things that Nyack does walking, shopping and showcasing talented local artists.

Local landlords embraced an opportunity to give back to the community by donating space for the festive display. “It is so wonderful to see everyone from landlords to artists to local business owners all working together to make our village a little brighter and fill our storefronts with holiday cheer,” said Nyack Mayor Jen Laird-White. A downloadable map of window locations is available at VisitNyack.org.

Dec 11 Opening Reception

There will be an opening reception for the Nyack Window Project on Friday, December 11 from 5-6:30p at 8 North Broadway.

Featured artists include Nyack native Tony Oursler, an internationally-known multimedia artist whose work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA, Tate Modern, and many other museums and galleries. Oursler’s installation will be part of a group of windows at the Athene Insurance building on North Broadway at the corner of Main Street.
