Live From Nyack: It’s Comprehensive Plan Night!

by Owen Voutsinas-Klose

It’s not quite as exciting as the opening skit to Saturday Night Live, but it’s certainly more important to Nyack residents, businesses and visitors than NBC’s long-running sketch comedy. And it’s just as live: in person at Village Hall on Wed at 7p, or live streaming on Twitter at @NyackNewsNViews.

Nyack’s Village Board will hold a public workshop on revising the Nyack Comprehensive Master Plan (CMP) on Wednesday, December 2.  The CMP is a document that outlines the broad goals for zoning in the village, including waterfront development, housing and sustainability.

If you can’t attend the meeting, you can visit NyackNewsAndViews twitter page after 7p on Wed to see the meeting. You can share your ideas with the Village Board and the community by tweeting @NyackNewsNViews with the hashtag, #NyackCMP. If you miss the show, there will be a link posted to an archive of the stream later in the week.

Last updated eight years ago, the master plan is a policy guide for future land use decisions in the vilVBCompPlanMtg201512lage. It is designed to foster a community discussion about what Nyack wants to be in the future, providing guidelines for future elected officials, developers, residents and realtors. While development cannot violate the CMP, the CMP is left relatively vague on purpose, in order to best reflect the general goals for future village development.

Among the topics to be addressed in the CMP is waterfront development and population density, sustainaiblity, walk-ability and other subjects which were raised during the recent proposed text amendment change to the zoning code to accommodate the TZ Vista condos on Gedney Street on the Hudson River.

The changes the board makes to the CMP will be a roadmap for future development, so all sides of the issue will be sure to share their opinions.
