Voting in A Winter Wonderland

Nyack, Dec 10 — The Nyack Fire Department apparently has connections in high places: the morning snowstorm abated at almost the exact time that polls opened this afternoon for the annual Fire District election. Polls will be open until 9p tonight at the Central Fire House on Park Street and the Depew Manor Senior Center.

Early turnout was heavy with a 30 minute wait at the fire station polling location.

Where to Vote

Nyack Fire District residents living south of Main Street, vote at Depew Manor Senior Center, 60 Depew Ave.

Residents living north of Main Street, vote at Central Fire House, 13 Park St in Nyack.

 

AMENDED LEGAL NOTICE FOR ANNUAL ELECTION

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual Election of the Nyack Joint Fire District, in the Towns of Orangetown and Clarkstown and the Villages of Nyack, Upper Nyack, South Nyack and Upper Grandview, in Rockland County, will take place on December 10, 2013 between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.  This election year the Fire District is divided into two Election Districts, divided along the middle of Main Street, Nyack, New York.  Voters residing on the south side of the middle of Main Street and south thereof will vote at the Depew Manor Senior Center, 60 Depew Place, Nyack, New York.  Voters residing on the north side of the middle of Main Street and north thereof will vote at the District Offices, 13 Park Street, Nyack, New York.  The vote will be for the purpose of the election of a Fire District Officer.

The Fire District Officer to be elected at said annual Election shall be the following: One (1) Fire District Commissioner, who shall have a respective term of Five (5) years, commencing January 1, 2014 until December 31, 2018.

All candidates for Office must appropriately file their names with the Secretary of the Fire District or otherwise proceed pursuant to law no later than November 20, 2013.  The polls to vote in said Election will be open for receipt of ballots at the aforesaid times and places above mentioned and shall be closed at both polling places at 9:00 p.m. in the evening of December 10, 2013.

AND NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that at such Annual Election to be held on December 10, 2013, the following three propositions will also be voted upon:

PROPOSITION NO. 1

Shall the existing Defined Benefit Service Award Program, previously established by the Fire District, be amended to allow the total number of years that can be earned in said program be increased from 20 years to 30 years of service?

PROPOSITION NO. 2

Shall the Bond Resolution adopted by the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Nyack Joint Fire District on October 22, 2013 authorizing (i) the acquisition of the existing Park Street fire station that is currently leased by said Fire District, located at 15 Park Street, Nyack, New York, including the two adjoining parcels of land located at 11 Park Street and 19 Park Street and all site work improvements, original furnishings, equipment, machinery and apparatus and legal expenses and other costs incidental thereto and the financing thereof, at a maximum cost of $3,000,000 and (ii) the issuance of $3,000,000 in serial bonds of said District, with a maximum term of thirty (30) years to finance said acquisition and with said District to appropriate funds and to the extent necessary levy and collect necessary taxes on an annual basis, sufficient to pay the principal and interest payment of said bonds or any bond anticipation notes issued in anticipation thereof, be approved?

PROPOSITION NO. 3

Shall the Bond Resolution adopted by the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Nyack Joint Fire District on October 22, 2013 authorizing (i) renovations, alterations and improvements involving no substantial changes in the existing structure or facility, including, but not limited to, work on the roof, gutters, drainage, bricks, windows, etc., to the Empire fire station, located at 330 North Broadway, Upper Nyack, New York, at a maximum cost of $400,000 and (ii) the issuance of $400,000 in serial bonds of said District, with a maximum term of fifteen (15) years to finance said acquisition and with said District to appropriate funds and to the extent necessary levy and collect necessary taxes on an annual basis, sufficient to pay the principal and interest payment of said bonds or any bond anticipation notes issued in anticipation thereof, be approved?
